Clark Griswold Gets Stuck on Casino War
In this movie, Casino War is the central game that is played by the main character, Clark Griswold. Within a short space of time he becomes addicted to gambling thanks to his run of bad luck when playing Casino War. Griswold then becomes obsessed with the thought of winning back all of his money and blocks out everything else that is happening around him. Clark does not realize that there are other games which may bring him better luck. Casino War is the easiest casino game to play and he does not look further.
How to Play Casino War
Casino War is normally played with 6 standard 52 card decks of cards. It is very simple, the player and the dealer each are dealt a card, the highest card wins. If there is a tie and the value of the cards are the same then the player can choose one of two options, either to surrender and lose half of his bet or to go to war. Griswold liked to go to war. If a player decided to go to war, he has to place an extra bet to the same value as the previous bet. Three cards are then burnt before the tie cards are turned over. If the player has a higher card than the dealer he wins the bet, but only his initial bet back, if the dealer has the higher card then he wins. Although this game may seem like it is 50/50, the odds are always in favor of the casino especially when there is a tie. This is something that Griswold did not realize and only when he had lost it all did he work out a way to get his dignity, money and family back.
